Deborah Meaden, one of the leading UK female entrepreneurs,
offers her expert advice on various aspects of running a business.
Deborah Meaden worked for her family's amusement arcade business in
her early twenties before moving over to the holiday park side of
the business, Weststar Holidays, where she was promoted to managing
director and grew the company from one to five holiday parks
catering for over 150,000 people per year. In 1999 Deborah
undertook a management buyout, and sold the company for £33m in
2005. Deborah has appeared on BBC Two's Dragons' Den since 2006,
where her notable investments have included YoudooDoll and
Buggyboot.
Meaden starts with the practical advice of evaluating the
viability of your business idea before developing the passion and
the motivation to carry it out. She also discusses how the
recession can force a company to become more efficient and consider
the sustainability of the business model. The key to a successful
entrepreneur, Deborah says, is having a great understanding of
where the business is, where the future of the company lies and
what is missing from it. Find out what Deborah Meaden believes to
be the "engine room" of any company and her view on how to get
investment such as a bank loan. Her background in family business
means that she can offer great advice on how to deal with the
issues that may arise for anyone considering entering a family
business, or already in one.
