WorkingMums.co.uk is a website that connects
working mothers with employers looking for experienced staff on a
flexible, part-time basis. Mums (or dads working on the same basis)
register for free, while employers pay to advertise positions. The
site has carved out a niche among its competition by also offering
editorial content, advice, and added features like career
toolkits.
Gillian Nissim was a communications executive before becoming an
entrepreneur. She had her business idea after the birth of her
second son, and founded Working Mums in 2006. The site took off
much quicker than Gillian expected, and in 2008 she raised seed
capital from investors, and moved from her kitchen table (where the
business is still part-based) to an office in London. The online
business now employs 12 staff, many of whom are working mums
too.
