Imran is perhaps most well-known for gaining investment on Dragons' Den in 2007 from Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis for his award-winning iTeddy, which he took from idea stage to big retailers' shelves in less than a year. But he also controls a diverse business portfolio which includes a chain of optometrists in and around the Northwest, a lens laboratory, spectacle frame distribution, optical retailing, management and recruitment. He started his first business buying and selling computers when he was a teenager in the early 90s, and continued running enterprises whilst he studied optometry at university.
The successful entrepreneur offers expert advice on how to start up a business and the challenges and risks involved in taking business into your own hands. Imran Hamkim says his idea for iTeddy came from sibling rivalry and a bet with his younger brother on whose business idea could be a success. Hamkim also relates to his experience on Dragons' Den and how mentoring from Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis helped him secure a manufacturing deal overseas and a patent.
Hakim also gives valuable tips for entrepreneurs dealing with the recession and takes the motto "never give up" and gives his version of "know when to give up". This video provides a guide for any entrepreneur on patents and trademarks, market research, business expansion and ultimately how you should always pursue your vision.
