Meet WedgeWelly co-founders Mike and Sarah Longthorn. Back
in 2006, the pair joined forces with designer Laura Booth to launch
their unique boot company. The idea - Wellington boots with a wedge
heel - caught on like wildfire, attracting the attention of Dragon
Theo Paphitis. This is their story.
The idea for WedgeWelly came about when Laura tried to convince
her pal Sarah to go to Glastonbury Festival. Sarah refused to give
up her heels - even to stand in a muddy field - and hunted high and
low for a pair of stylish wellies with a little lift.
The search was fruitless and the two fashionistas realised they
had found their niche.
Fast-forward two years and Laura, Sarah and Mike Longthorn were
pitching to the most fierce of angel investors: the Dragons. Theo
Paphitis was charmed by the business and offered £65,000 for a 25%
stake in the business.
