Shaa Wasmund, Smarta.com

Raising investment for a start-up at the height of recession is no mean feat. But Smarta.com founder Shaa Wasmund not only raised the capital she needed, she convinced two Dragons to stump up the cash.

"I stalked Theo for two years," she says. "But we laugh about it now." The tactic worked. Today, Smarta boasts an impressive panel of investors including Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden. And the pair have been invaluable to the business.

In this interview, Wasmund talks about getting the Dragons on board, and her experiences being  a female entrepreneur across a host of male dominated sectors. When Wasmund started her career, it was in the boxing world. "The only women in the business were the ring-side girls," she says. But has being a women ever held her back? "Never," she says.

Wasmund is certainly no wallflower. The California-born Smarta boss knew from an early age that she wanted to be an entrepreneur and that nothing would ever hold her back. Watch the video to find out more about courting Dragons, boxing legends and the 'entrepreneur gene'.
