I created a branded ebook to publicise my business
The idea
The STYLISA ebook, 'How to Style Yourself to Success in 30 Days',
came about after a number of conversations with James
Hammond, The Brand Doctor and author of Branding Your Business.
I wrote a piece for his forthcoming book, about personal branding
and he suggested that I write an ebook, giving advice on style.
How I did it
I decided from the outset that it was going to be a no-nonsense
guide. I just wanted to give people clear and simple advice on how
to dress in a fashion that would help them be successful. I have
never been the type of person to 'flower' things up, I like
information to be concise and to the point, so I structured my
ebook in that way. When it comes to style, I have always believed
that style has a function that goes beyond the realms of simply
wearing the right outfit. For me it is an extension of who you are
and communicates something about you to the outside world. I was
very keen to convey this in the book.
Surprisingly it did not take me too long to write it - I started
writing it on a Friday and by the Sunday evening, it was done. I
sent it to James and a few other people to read and they came back
with some amendments and comments. Overall the feedback was
postive. I was going to have some illustrations, but that fell
through at the last minute. Then it was a case of just getting it
out there, which I did not do for some time. This delay in getting
the book published was a blessing in disguise because it led me to
the platform that I would eventually publish my book
on...myebook.
How I publicised my ebook
I was introduced to Sy Whitehall (the brains behind myebook) by
Claire O'Connell, who is Managing Director of a soon to be launched
creatives directory, The Chook. Claire told me about a website,
where you could create and upload your ebooks free of charge, by
simply creating an account online. Furthermore, there was the
option to sell your book on the website (there is a charge of 10%
commissions on transactions). A few days later, I met with Sy, who
introduced me to the wonderful wonderful of myebook.
Myebook aims to revolutionise the way we create, publish and
share ebook content online. Built on a feature-rich social
platform, complete with powerful, browser-based, builder software,
and a slick reader environment, there's never been an easier way
for anyone and everyone to 'get it out there'.
A few days later, the final version of myebook was ready to be
uploaded. The process was very easy to follow, and within minutes,
my ebook was live and ready to be viewed.
The results
I publicised through press releases and all of my online
channels (Twitter, Facebook, blog, etc...). To date, the book has
now had over 10,000 views and has been live since the May of this
year. Furthermore, I am now partnered with myebook and intend to
work with them on future projects on behalf of my clients.
When I can fit it into my schedule, I intend to write more
ebooks... I think the next one is going to be about my work as a
social media stylist.
Check out my ebook. I would welcome all comments and
feedback!
