The discipline of writing things down

It might sound incredibly obvious or the most basic of business advice, but the discipline of writing things down shouldn't be undervalued.

Remember that genius idea you had on Tuesday morning when you were on the way to the office? Ahh, thought not.
There's a reason writers carry notepads. The best ideas are generated when your mind is relaxed and not constrained by the barriers of your working day - but are you wasting them?
Make sure you capture your ideas, no matter how big or small. The only way to do this is to make it easy for yourself then get into the habit of doing it. Carry a notepad if that's going to work, but otherwise make sure you've a nice note taking app on your phone. Alternatively, carry a small digital voice recorder (most phones have these too).
Writing things down isn't just about remembering ideas - it's a trigger to do act on them. When you've had an idea make some time as soon as possible after to write it down, draw it and scope it out.
Remember, mighty oaks from little acorns grow. What starts a small adaption to a product can evolve into a whole new opportunity if you take the time to think it out - and don't lose that first seed of inspiration.
There are some cool tools and apps out there for plotting and sharing ideas. Popplet is my favourite, but there are plenty to choose from.
If you've got great minds people - don't let them go to waste! You've got to make sure you capture your ideas, no matter how big or small.
