Jamie Dunn: Why other people's negativity won't get me down

I have been facing problems since the age of 12, from under-achieving in school right through to personal problems. And before people say that this article is sympathy hunting, it definitely isn't - I would just like people to learn to look beyond the first layer of somebody and give them a chance. It is hard enough trying to achieve something in the first place without feeling the whole world is against you.

It seems that most people in this country like to dampen somebody's dreams. It can act as a barrier in any situation in life, and everybody will face it at some point.

But the best feeling in the world is to know that you overcame that barrier, because you then feel like you can definitely beat anything else that is put in front of you. So don't be disheartened when somebody comes up against you and doesn't believe in what you are trying to achieve - the key is to spend your time with the people that do believe in you.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the people that have got me to where I am today. Everybody at the National Enterprise Academy Pathfinder Course, all my family despite everything, and the businesses that gave me the opportunity to make something of myself, Ideas2Business and TunesTimesTables.

One final thought: if you are in the position where you feel like you cannot go on anymore, just take a second to think about what you have achieved to this point and how good it will feel when you overcome this barrier. Keep going.
