60-second start-up: Stylus Parties

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

Stylus Parties is the UK's first ever at-home style party company. The idea is to make style accessible to everyone, in a place they feel most comfortable. It also gives budding stylists the opportunity to train and set-up their own business.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

We've taken the principle behind Tupperware parties and The Body Shop At Home and brought it to style! The company's bespoke, industry-leading online training programme gives trainees all the knowledge, tools and insight needed to host their own style parties. We are creating entrepreneurs!

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

We don't have any direct competitors, as we're unique in the market, but other at-home party companies or image consultants are our closest thing to competition.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Apart from being the first of our kind, I would say our state-of-the-art online training, the fact that there is no commission or fees to pay to be part of our network, and the ongoing business support we give to qualified stylists.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

I'm proud to say that the development and launch of Stylus Parties has been totally self-funded.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I've been a self-employed image consultant for a number of years, advising individuals, corporate teams and retailers on all aspects of style and personal branding. I've also worked in the Lifelong Learning Sector as a tutor, delivering a range of style courses. I continue to do this work, as I find it extremely rewarding.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

I had the idea in the back of my mind for many years. My love of fashion and style and the desire to make them accessible to all was the inspiration behind the company.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

We've invested in doing things correctly from the outset. Everything from the online learning platform to PR and marketing has been carefully planned and funded.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Rather than there being one big stupid mistake, my biggest regret is not starting Stylus Parties much earlier in my life.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

I love Border Dark Chocolate Ginger Biscuits. To me, they a real quality product at an affordable price, which exactly sums up Stylus Parties!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

I've never been a jealous person, but I have to say Steve Jobs' iPad 2 is an unbelievable product.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

Our biggest target is to have at least one Stylus Parties stylist in every county in the UK.
