Richard and Dee Slade of the Battlesteads in Wark-on-Tyne, Northumberland, won the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year in 2010.
Richard Slade says: "Anyone considering entering should go for it - you have nothing to lose. It's an opportunity to scrutinise your business - to look how far you've come, where you want to be and how you're going to get there."
