Calling all publicans! Enter the Great British Pub Awards 2011

The search is now on for the UK's best pubs with the Great British Pub Awards 2011.

This annual ranking, published by the Publican's Morning Advertiser, features 16 categories, including: Best Entertainment Pub, Best Gastropub Pub, Best Community Pub and Best Tenanted/Leased Pub. This year, the Great British Pub Awards has also introduced two brand new categories to widen the net for applicants: Best Smoking Area and Best Sports Pub.

To enter, simply download and send off an application form. The judging day takes place on June 7 with site visits scheduled during the following months. All finalists will be invited to a glittering awards ceremony in London on Thursday 8 September.

Richard and Dee Slade of the Battlesteads in Wark-on-Tyne, Northumberland, won the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year in 2010.

Richard Slade says: "Anyone considering entering should go for it - you have nothing to lose. It's an opportunity to scrutinise your business - to look how far you've come, where you want to be and how you're going to get there."
