60-second start-up: Concept Cupboard

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

Concept Cupboard matches businesses with talented students and graduates to work on design and marketing projects. For instance: logo design, web design, animations, films etc.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Businesses pay a small listing fee to post a description of the project they need help with. Our creatives then send in their own designs for the business to review. The business picks their favourite design and works with that creative to finish the project. The business then pays the creative a pre-agreed fee when the project is complete. Simples!

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

UK design agencies and freelancers. There are also some US-based online design services, but they don't provide the awesome customer support we do.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

We use young, up-and-coming creative talent from the UK to help businesses produce better design and marketing materials for less.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

So far the business has been self-funded.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I was working for a brilliant ad agency in London heading up part of the O2 account. It was an amazing job where I got to work with some incredibly talented people but I couldn't resist the temptation to start something from scratch.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

I doubt I'm the first to say this but it came from a good old chat over a few beers.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Putting our talent in front of some high profile clients and opinion leaders to show just how talented our creatives really are. It worked a treat and we now have an invite to 10 Downing Street off the back of it.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

We haven't done anything stupid, yet. Touch wood.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

We'd be some kind of biscuit selection box as we give our businesses lots of different unique designs to choose from.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

There are too many to mention, but YouTube is such a simple idea and it has completely changed the way we search and consume content.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

We want to be doing more of what we are doing now, but on an even bigger scale. Helping more businesses, students and graduates in the UK.
