Victoria Novis launched Nuba Cocktails in March this year. Her range of
premium ready-made cocktails may only boast three flavours -
Cosmopolitan, Mojito and Mai Tai - but the firm is already winning
plaudits (Best In-flight Food or Beverage Product 2011, no less).
Ex-Innocent chairman Jules Hydleman recently joined the board. This
is definitely one to watch. Novis has this 60-second business
pitch.
0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence
A cocktail in a bottle. Simple! (Ok, technically that's two
sentences, well three if you include this, but bonus points for
short and sweet?!)
5-10 seconds: What's the business model?
Cocktail demand has rocketed! I want to make great cocktails
readily available for all to enjoy affordably, easily and
conveniently.
10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?
Bacardi launched cocktails in a bottle shortly after I launched,
so I may up against a tough challenge! But Nuba are unique - see
below!
15-20 seconds: What's your USP?
7% Alcohol By Volume, 100% Natural, completely delicious and
totally authentic! Single serving-sized bottle also allows for
widespread appeal across both on trade and off trade markets and
the travel and catering industries.
20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so
far?
Very generous and supportive family and friends.
25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?
I am a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor and I
specialised in Personal Tax for five years at KPMG before handing
in my notice to everyone's surprise after secretly launching my
products!
30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come
from?
Everyone loves cocktails but they're not always available, and
when they are, they're prohibitively expensive. Cocktails are too
yummy to be restricted like this!
35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done
so far?
Creating a product that I can sell for more than it costs me!
Bringing the ex-Chairman of Innocent Smoothies on board and
employing an ex-Apprentice!
40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?
Not writing a business plan till several months into trading!
Unforgiveable given my background!
45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what
would it be?
Jaffa Cake - classic, tasty, with a hint of fruit!
50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous
of?
Ebay. Grrrr!
55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12
months' time?
On a slightly bigger couch in an office smelling of leather!
