60-second start-up: Foodhost.co.uk

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

Foodhost.co.uk is an online community platform which allows food lovers to create and attend local dinner parties.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Users can sign up for free and are able to purchase credits for £2-£3 each, which allows them to host or attend a meal event. This could be a one off meal or a string of meals similar to the style of Come Dine With Me.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

At first it will be traditional dining establishments, but we predict that there will be competitor sites entering the market shortly after us.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

In a period of economic woes, users can save time, money, and effort - whilst making new friends and enjoying great meals.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

Self-funded through personal savings.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Previously I worked at a supermarket and prior to that I worked in the fast food industry. I've always had a passion for fine food, even when flipping burgers.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

Listening to a podcast on peer-to-peer businesses. There were lots of successful sites around which were based on sharing things such as cars, spare rooms etc. and I thought, "Why not to do the same for food?"

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Always asking questions.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Writing a 50-page business plan. It was a wasted month but a good lesson learned.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

I'm more of a cheesecake fan myself, but if Foodhost.co.uk had to be a biscuit it would be a gingerbread - tasty and memorable.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

Airbnb, they've started an accommodation revolution.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

We want to be the leading player in this market, with a strong presence throughout all major UK towns and cities.
