0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence
Housebites is the new way to order individually cooked, home-made takeaway from your local chef, delivered to your door for the price of a pizza.
5-10 seconds: What's the business model?
It works similar to a franchise. Chefs sign up to the service, set their prices and Housebites takes a small commission.
10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?
There aren't any direct competitors! There are some cold food suppliers but you can't 'order now'. If anything, we're reinventing takeaway so our competitors are Deliverance, Dominoes etc.
15-20 seconds: What's your USP?
Unique, local, high quality, engagement and service. Solving all the problems with existing takeaway.
20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?
It's been angel-funded by three individual investors.
25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?
I founded SpeedDater, growing it to become Europe's largest singles events company, operating in seven countries. I also had a massive failed attempt at being a tour operator.
30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?
I've been exploring the food space for 18 months, originally with a social idea. I realised that there were lots of problems in the existing takeaway market and came up with a new service that doesn't require that big a behaviour shift from consumers.
35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?
Not give up, share the idea and hire the best people.
40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?
Going into the travel business without a clear revenue model.
45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?
It would be a different biscuit everyday - just like our menu.
50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?
I'm 'pleased' for Moshi Monsters. The way it continues to evolve and constantly finding new revenue streams and markets is very smart.
55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?
London-wide and in all major UK cities.
