I think it would be fair to say that the last few years have been tough for many small businesses. In fact, mere survival has required a Herculean effort for some. These business have not just survived these challenging times, but they have thrived. Every area of business has been represented in the Smarta 100; cocktails to children's toys, education to hotels and social enterprises to very much for profit businesses.
The Smarta 100 really are punching above their weight and making a difference. If you want to see what makes Britain great, look now.
If you follow me or SmartaHQ - or if you're on Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook generally, you wouldn't have been able to miss the lobbying for votes! At final count, just under 40,000 had been lodged - an extraordinary testament to both the impact of social media on business and the love that people have for our Smarta 100.
The common theme? Passion. These businesses are run by people who are passionate about what they do and how they do it. They take enormous pride in their work and are driving their businesses forward with determination, intelligence, great customer engagement and a Smarta attitude.
I take my hat off to you all.
