60-second start-up: Hubbub

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

An Ocado-style delivery service for local independent shops.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Customers order online at hubbub.co.uk from their local greengrocer, fishmonger, baker and other brilliant shops in their area. We then collect from all the local shops and deliver everything to the customer in one go.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

Online supermarkets.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

We combine the convenience of the supermarkets with the quality and service of independent shops.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

Angel investment, including from customers.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I was a barrister practicing human rights law.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

As a barrister, I didn't have time to buy good quality food from my local independents. I spent all day trying to make my community better and then spent my money with Tesco. It grated.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Testing the concept as a pilot scheme first, and then rolling out slowly to get the blueprint right.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Spending pounds on a very beautiful and very ineffective DM campaign.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Homemade shortbread in a superhero cape; a simple recipe made with the best ingredients, and one day it might just save the world.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

Ebay, for obvious reasons.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

London-wide.
