60-second start-up: Mutual Attraction

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

We bring matchmaking into modern times for busy London professionals.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Mutual Attraction offers an exclusive membership, working one-on-one with members so they receive a personalised, bespoke and tailored service. We take the time to really get to know our members and we understand modern relationships can be anything but conventional.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

There are several other matchmaking consultancies, most of whom are stuffy and dated and use 'psychology tests' and questionnaires to match people. That is simply not our style.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

We live, work, date and socialise in London. We get how difficult dating here is, so we coordinate everything for our members and all they need to do is turn up and enjoy the date. Whether they want to go for cocktails in a members' club or go paragliding we will arrange it although the latter is not advisable on a first date!

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

I am self funded but I keep on the right side of my bank manager.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I was working with small children; now I work with big children.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

A friend of mine is a bigwig in the City, he's a great catch but there is not a chance he is putting his photo on a dating site - just imagine the jokes on the trading floor! He's not a fan of bars and clubs, so where does he meet his match? With us.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've
done so far?

I utilised my friends and family to help get things going. I was amazed how many of them worked in finance, computing and events and all accept payment in the form of a large glass of wine.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Let others' scepticism and negativity bring me down.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

A ginger nut - always looking for a bit of spice in a relationship never mind the spark!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

I'm a little jealous of those who have managed to create successful dating advice video blogs, I had to hide behind the sofa while watching my attempt before it was promptly deleted.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in
12 months' time?

I'll be buying lots of hats for all the weddings and christenings I'll be attending.
