Shaa's Blog: my solution to the double dip

Yesterday we saw the announcement that many of us expected - we are officially back in a recession. The UK has lurched into a double dip recession with a 0.2% fall in GDP in the first quarter of 2012. This is the first double dip we've seen since the 1970s and that is sure to make many of us even more cautious and concerned about the future than we already are.

Predictions for when we will truly come out the other side are varied to say the least, but the earliest is in 2013 and most predict that we are in for a bumpy ride for the next few years at least.

We are truly living in uncertain times, but that doesn't mean we can't find ways to thrive.  It's not always as easy as politicians might like it to sound. Of course it takes hard work, but it also takes a very strong mindset to keep on keeping on, to find new ways of looking at your business, ways of saving money, finding new clients and sometimes just keeping your head above water.

But it is possible. We have to get our heads in the right place and have a plan to put into action.

This includes me. So on Saturday, I will be brushing up my own thoughts and plans when I spend the day in London with one of my favourite (and I think best) business and success coaches Michael Neill and the international best selling success author Robert Holden.

We need to reach out to others and see not only how they can help us, but how we can help them. By collaborating, we will find more solutions. Sometimes, it will be the simplest things like switching our suppliers. Other times it will be pushing ourselves to go out and meet different people to open up new opportunities or making sure we really take care of our existing customers and making sure we, the business owners, have the right mindset and attitude to thrive. In reality, for most of us, it will be a combination of all of those.

There are many business that have not only survived a recession, but built global empires during one, including MTV, Disney and Microsoft.

We can't wish this recession away,we can't wave a magic wand, but we can work our way through it, with the right mindset and by working together.
