When we entered the Smarta 100 we were only just entering the market with our product. We had been developing rain Splats for two years and we felt ready to start shouting about our brand.
We thought it would help get Splats out there and be seen by some interesting people and we felt it would be a good networking tool. We are a small start-up and were looking for ways to market Splats.
It was really exciting. The buzz started as soon as we had been announced - I wasn't really prepared for the excitement to be honest. We had all sorts of people contacting us and it was a great way to shout about our brand while drumming up votes, it was also a nice way for all our friends and family to support us.
We immediately had a few retailers contact us so we saw it benefit our sales straight away. We were also approached by an investor who had obviously been scouting through the winners. Then on the night of the awards the networking opportunities were fabulous; we managed to link up with some fantastic businesses and have already embarked on a few successful cross marketing projects.
Since winning we have managed to get orders from John Lewis and Russell & Bromley. We have just started selling our second product sunSplats, which will also be hitting the shelves of John Lewis in Spring 2013. We never in a million years thought we would be in such fantastic stores in our first year, so it's super exciting.
Be imaginative and think outside the box. If you make it into the Smarta 100 you should really make the most of the wonderful business opportunity that it is. Good luck!
