As we continue the countdown to this year's Smarta
100, we have caught up with previous winners. Here Simon
Duffy, the founder of natural male grooming business Bulldog, explains what it was like to win
in 2010.
What stage was your business at when you won the Smarta
100?
We were in four major UK retailers where we were growing
quickly, and we were also thinking about launching in our first
overseas market.
Why did you enter the awards?
Smarta is a great site and I thought that doing well in the
awards might help to build Bulldog's profile.
What was the experience like?
It was straightforward, professional and enjoyable.
How has your business benefited from being a part of
the awards?
It's hard to trace back our success since 2010 to any one
factor. Anything that introduces you to new people and brings
positive attention to your company is a good thing. I think our
position in the Smarta 100 will have helped this.
What has your business achieved since being named a
Smarta 100 winner?
A lot has happened since 2010. We've improved our packaging and
opened many exciting new markets. You can now find Bulldog in
Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, USA, Japan,
Australia and New Zealand. We're in more than 8,000 stores
worldwide now.
Back home we are the fastest growing major men's skincare brand.
It's a tricky market for men's skincare in the UK, but we are
currently growing at more than 30%.
What is your top tip for any company thinking of
