60-second start-up: OneLeap

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence:

OneLeap is a free to join but an exclusive global community that enables the best entrepreneurs to get directly through to business leaders: investors, high-value customers and influencers.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Entrepreneur members join free. They pay a small fee to get personal introductions to business leaders. 80% of the fee goes to the business leader's charity. OneLeap takes a 20% commission. Corporates also pay us to connect them with leading entrepreneurs.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

LinkedIn, email (given, guessed or otherwise), Twitter (if you're comfortable starting conversations that way).

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

An exclusive club for entrepreneurs that offers guaranteed introductions to the people you need to build your business - fast.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

The three founders seed-funded our first round. Last year we raised an angel round from 11 high-net-worth individuals (from CEOs of companies to VCs) - all of whom are also business leader members on OneLeap and wanted to hear from serious entrepreneurs.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Robyn (co-founder) started a social enterprise in Southern Africa and was writing her first book. Hamish (co-founder) was a senior advisor in the UK Prime Minster's Strategy Unit. Alex, our CTO, was at Linden Labs, which created online virtual world, Second Life.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

The third co-founder, Robyn's brother, Damien, had the idea while working at Williams F1. He was using LinkedIn InMails to get through to new business contacts. We wanted to improve on InMail's use of a fee to show you are serious, making the fee more tailored and focusing on serious entrepreneurs.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Build a team that enjoys working together and supports each other through moments of triumph and frustration. It was also a good decision to have investors who believe in our idea and love using the product.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Sometimes building in a vacuum and not testing things with real users fast enough. Sometimes focusing too much on what interests us versus what's essential.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Mint chocolate digestive - we bring together two very different flavours (entrepreneurs and the business leaders they want to meet), which work very well together. And we're good for you / your business (the digestive bit)!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

We're all big fans of crowd-funding platforms. It's exciting to see some of our OneLeap entrepreneurs using them to boost their organisations.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

Several leaps from where we are now. The more bold entrepreneurs we have on board, the faster we can build a really great service.
