www.worktop-express.co.uk are solid wood worktop specialists, offering a range of worktops delivered direct to our customers as blanks, or cut to size and hand finished to the their specification.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Primarily an e-commerce operation (although we do have a large showroom at our headquarters in Gloucestershire), we sell a vast range of solid wood worktops in ten different species from traditional Oak and Beech to the more exotic Bamboo and Iroko.  Our products are competitively priced, ethically sourced, and delivered nationwide next day availability using our in-house two man delivery service.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

We’ve quickly become one of the leading suppliers in the market, competing easily with major high street stores as well as other independent timber merchants and smaller e-commerce sites.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Low prices, quality products that are sustainably sourced, large range held in stock, nationwide next day via our two man delivery service.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

We have grown the business organically from the start without the need for bank funding.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

After leaving education I spent a few years learning the ‘tricks of the Internet trade’ on eBay.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

After saturating the market on eBay in the start-up phase, we decided to launch our first website and brand – and Worktop Express® was born!

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Cutting out the middleman. Introducing our own delivery fleet in 2011 was the final phase in this process - we’re now the only step between the manufacturer and the customer.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Not planning for expansion sooner. In our case, this has meant literally having staff sat on top of each other while new offices are being built next door!

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Chocolate Digestive. Natural ingredients (our products), with an added layer of luxury (our service).

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

The bright spark that evolved into Zendesk, which is an exceptional cloud-based platform that streamlines the customer support process. Every company should use it!

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

We’re always looking for ways to grow and improve our services. In 12 months we will have installed some innovative machinery that will accelerate and enhance our fabrication service, our delivery fleet will have expanded, and we will have launched several depots nationwide in order to build on our omni-channel presence.
