60 second start-up: Sky Rock Events

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

Our main objective is to raise awareness of talented and skilled people by organising and hosting events that would potentially promote their work and portfolios to the right people. We are currently organising a Fashion Show for our client Matt Jones, showcasing his incredible collection of unisex urban style t-shirts!

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

We offer our clients innovative and creative ways of presenting their work to the world. By doing so, they are able to make a stand; their voice would finally be heard.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

Anyone in the Events Industry.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

We appreciate people’s needs and wants which is why we work closely with our clients in order to fully understand what they do, their desire, ambition and motivation. Sky Rock Events believes in intimacy and dedication. Understanding the full objective of the event is the most important challenge as it is not only quality that matters but the final result.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

I have self-funded so far.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I had just graduated in Events Management and moved to Australia for three months which turned into a whole year! Even though my main job there was in retail, I did manage to score some amazing placements working alongside Sydney’s best Events and PR companies.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

After years of struggling looking for the right career path, I realised there isn’t much support for people in my position. Companies require you to have a number of degrees, speak 5 languages, have years’ worth of work experience and have a long list of contacts in the industry you have chosen to work in. On top of that, the competition is getting fiercer with the day. Businesses are looking for people who stand out and know how to make an impression. You could think of our events as someone’s CV or portfolio. We aim to put all their work into one event for all potential employers to see. We are all about presentation and making a name for our clients.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

We managed to build a strong network of contacts in a wide range of industries. Everyone has been absolutely amazing at giving us advice and a variety of tips. Knowing the right person is crucial for us as our job is to find the correct industry representative to attend our events and have a look at our client’s work.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Underestimating how important advertising and marketing is and leaving it to the last minute!

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Salted Millionaire’s Shortbread.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

I’m not a jealous person at all, but sometimes I ask myself “why didn’t I think of that?!”

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

I recently got back from Sydney, Australia, where I spent a whole year networking and meeting new people. I was lucky enough to work with the amazing Mike Tyson and Coldplay as well as a number of other pretty great artists. In 12 months’ time, I’d like to think Sky Rock Events would have a never ending list of contacts and we will have established ourselves in London as a Special Events Business helping talented people get their dream job!
