60 second start-up: Mr Cake

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

Bespoke, custom cakes for weddings, birthdays, and all celebrations where people might need cake!

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Just me working from home, delivering the cakes myself! I also supply the local cafe.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

Other independent cake makers. There are lots in the Cambridge area and it's a vicious, dog-eat-dog industry!!!

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

My attention to detail, design skill, and use of top quality ingredients.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

Completely out of my own pocket, with personal savings. No bank loans!!

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Immigration Officer at Stansted Airport.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

It worked as a home business model, allowed me to combine my interests of food and artistic creativity, and allowed me to be my own boss.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Resign from my old job on a cake! (Chris spelt out his resignition from Stansted Airport on the icing of a home made cake. A photo of the "letter" was shared online and soon Mr Cake had national media coverage and more orders than ever before.)

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Wait for so long before deciding to follow my dream.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Anything homemade and tasty!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

If I wasn't making cakes I'd like to have invented the iPhone. I use mine all the time for my business!

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

I'd love to be publishing a cook book.
