JealousProposition: One sentence explanation of what your business is

Jealous is a premium confectionery company marketed towards grown-ups, we've taken out the gunk and junk associated with traditional sweets and only use natural ingredients.

Why are you a smart business?

We decided to bring credibility back to candy by making sweets as natural as possible without making them as boring as veg. We believe everyone deserves great tasting sweets and that’s why ours are 100% vegetarian, gluten free, full of natural fruit juices and free from artificial colours and flavours.

We also noticed that sweets are dominated by mainstream, kid-friendly brands, even though grown-ups love sweets just as much. So we decided to create a new confectionery brand that’s as special as a box of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers.

What’s the smartest thing you’ve done to help your business grow?

Networking, networking and then some more networking, at every opportunity we speak about Jealous. We're constantly talking about Jealous weather it’s at a family barbecue or the supermarket checkout we put Jealous out there. This has resulted in business from all over the world as well as putting us in front of Richard Branson, where we nabbed some Investment.

What smart things do you do for your customer’s

We are constantly sampling in the outlets such at Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, this enables us to interact with our customers and get real conversations going as to what they like and dislike. We use this feedback to improve the Jealous brand and this has led to the re-branding of Jealous. We used an award winning branding agency B&B Studio to help elevate our brand into becoming the next iconic brand within the confectionery sector.

What smart technologies do you use to run your business?

We use an automated fully integrated e-commerce platform which helps with internet order fulfilment from when the customer places an order on the website. T his has really helped with making the e-commerce side of the business more efficient and streamlined for us to grow rapidly. We are also making use of other great on-line businesses such as People per hour which have amazing freelancers in all types of industries that bring great experience at an affordable cost.

What’s your smartest tip for other entrepreneurs?

Having a passion for your business is a key ingredient, without this you won't have the persistence and sheer determination to do whatever it takes to overcome the hurdles to eventually succeed. Ultimately if you want to build a successful business it takes a lot of hard work as well as working in a smart manner.

Getting a business mentor is definitely a must these days as they bring lots of experience of being in business as well as useful contacts, and the various pitfalls to avoid.

Having a exercise regime weather that's running, going to the gym or swimming coupled with a balanced diet will help you keep fit and mentally agile, for the day to day grind of the entrepreneurial journey.
