60 second start-up: DIY Weddings

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence:

Wedding Planner & Florist super team creating stylish gorgeousness for magical wedding days for brides on a budget!

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

DIY Weddings is a family partnership.  Prospective customers can visit our website to find out about our services and then we will create a personalised quote based on their needs.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

There are lots of wedding planners and florists about, however we are taking a new approach based on our contacts made inside and outside of the wedding world to give as much value as we can.  We can team up planning and floristry as well as working with the venue to help create the exact atmosphere for the bride and groom – or split our services

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

We operate to make the most of our customer’s money, rather than charging the earth! We use seasonal produce, homespun creativeness and beg, steal and borrow to create the day our customers’ dream of.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

From our own savings. We operate as cost effective as possible and run our business by our own service values of getting value for money.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Half of our team work in marketing, the other in project management.  We both have art / floristry backgrounds also.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

As a diy bride myself I realised what a huge amount of work it is to plan a wedding, try to save money doing so and manage things on the day.  I couldn’t do it and hired an on the day wedding planner.  We think the trend for cost effective, diy weddings is going to increase and we believe we can take away some of the pain for brides and grooms.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Get out and make contact with other local suppliers

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Selling some of the props after my own wedding, we will have to buy items to replace them now!

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

A pink fox’s party ring, you get a lot for your money and we create stylish pretty ideas. Plus they are made in Yorkshire!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

ASOS.com, it has grown enormously from one simple idea to copy the clothes that celebrities wear to a one stop shop for fashion now.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

We’re going to be planning super stylish weddings and gorgeous flowers for couples all over Yorkshire and all within their budget!
