60 second start-up: Bella Brilla

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence

A brand name in Luxury Special Occasion Accessories that drags a dated industry into line with high fashion using the very best of UK creative talent and textiles.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

We provide executive women planning a special occasion a unique showcase of exclusive, on trend designs that can be customised to allow them to feel unique.  We do this by providing a sales platform for UK creative talent that promote UK textiles and in exchange for exclusive designs we provide them with business mentoring, marketing and routes to market not readily available to them.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

We have competition in individual accessory sectors from high end designers to small craft businesses, none however provide a complete accessory solution.  In terms of our platform we have competition from Etsy and Not on the high Street but these platform in the words of the designers are ‘saturated’.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Currently there is no brand name delivering all accessories for the special occasion market, and all our designs are exclusive to us this is part if our designers contract and a USP we can offer our selected stockists too.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

Creating sales and re-investing them through attending wedding fairs and ladies events with my products and also personal investment.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

My background is in sales and marketing and after having a family I started a small wedding accessory business, I later studied 3 years to become a goldsmith/silversmith and with this won several awards and came up with the concept for Bella Brilla after noticing a gap in the creative arts educational system.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

I knew how to sell the designs I made, but many of the students I knew couldn’t as there was no business units built into their HND. I wanted to create a portal for all bridal/special occasion accessories after my customers told me this is something that would help them save time and hassle in planning their wedding.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Apply for Entrepreneurial spark, as a creative person and a bit of a dreamer they helped me focus and refine my business and its direction, whilst helping me rebuild the confidence I lost being away from corporate life.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Spent a considerable amount of money on marketing, directing traffic to a website I was not 100% happy with as it did not reflect the company in the way i wanted it to be perceived.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

A Borders Dark Chocolate ginger – Made in Scotland, luxurious with a wicked spicy bite that makes you want to eat more.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

Most definitely Facebook.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

Stocked in all of the UKs High end department store as a recognisable brand and moving forward with plans to take the platform concept to Ireland and into Europe.
