What is crowdfunding and who knows about it?

There's no shortage of opportunities when it comes to seeking investment for small businesses up and down the country. Whether it’s filling out an application form for Dragons’ Den or strolling down to your nearest bank, entrepreneurs have a number of leads to follow. But, it's all about knowing which deal to take and who to ask for money.

If you've never been introduced to crowdfunding before, it's a great way for small businesses to seek investment and for investors to put their money into new businesses. Its popularity has grown dramatically thanks to websites such as KickStarter. The aim to bring people and businesses together in order to raise funds has seen it become an exciting prospect for a number of start-ups.

A recent study commissioned by InvestingZone shows that 59 per cent of British investors have not heard of crowdfunding. However, the survey, which involved 1,000 people, found that 82 per cent of investors want to get involved in new and interesting investment opportunities.
