60 second start-up: Woto

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence:

It’s the simplest and most complete way to create and publish a page of information to the web and to social.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

Our core product is free. We monetise by selling a white label version for B2B and an advanced version for the web design community.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

Blogs and website builders are the only alternative but do not offer the same ease, freedom and immediacy.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Being able to create and publish pages of information to the web, like a large, rich media post, with the immediacy and freedom of social.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

We have invested over £200,000 from our personal savings, before raising investment from Ingenious Ventures, Galata Business Angels and Zag, the corporate venturing arm of global creative agency BBH.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Running a Group of small businesses offering custom software development services and strategic IT consulting services and products.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

To appeal to the masses, social developers have been dumbing-down their products to the point that today it’s almost impossible to create meaningful information that doesn’t get buried in a time-line or suffer the constraints of a box or character limits.

Woto provides a space on the web that’s not constrained by size, shape, content or rules, that enables serious sharers to shape their own content, easily, without limitation.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Getting the right team.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

The sex change…

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

It hasn’t been invented yet – but it would certainly have the temptation of a chocolate-coated Marshmellow, the crunch of a Florentine biscuit and of course, an element of surprise with a Jammie Dodger!

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

Google Glass. Not so much the glasses but the computing power close to your head. It’s a stepping stone to thought controlled everything; the domain of sci-fi…. bring it on!

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

Woto will be whirling round the world and have a community of 100+ million within the next three years.
