The Biggest Social Impact category celebrates those companies that make a difference to peoples lives and are crucial to their society's happiness.
The overall winner will have to win votes by proving it contributes to the most people's lives, makes the biggest difference or inspires greatness in others more than any other business on the shortlist.
Accessprofessions.com (AP) was founded in 2010 as a direct answer to Alan Milburn’s 2009 report on Fair Access to the Professions. The report highlighted the difficulties many young people face in accessing the sort of opportunities more privileged students take for granted. While many firms, businesses and universities offer internships, work experience, summer schools and other aspiration-raising activities, those who are privately educated tend to hear about them first.
AP enables partner firms and businesses to register details of their activities, and young people, teachers and parents are matched with only those that are relevant to their interests, education and needs offering better targeting of opportunities and allowing the less privileged students to not miss out.
Founder Mark Zao-Sanders said ““As a charity helping aspiring students find the best opportunities for study and careers, positive social impact is the most important part of what we do. We’re proud to sponsor the “Biggest Social Impact” category of the O2 Smarta 100 and look forward to seeing the best British small businesses improving lives of those around them.”
