60 second start-up: datemy.co.uk

0-5 seconds: Sum your business up in a sentence:

datemy.co.uk is an online dating website where people can help someone find love.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

datemy.co.uk brings single people together through their own personal Matchmakers. Anyone can become a Matchmaker for someone they know, write their profile, find them matches and set up blind dates!

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors?

We are the first online dating website to use matchmaking features. Our main competitor is probably mysinglefriend.com purely because of the profile writing stage.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Our matchmaking features and a warm, personal approach.

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

I crowdfunded datemy across 3 months. I pitched the business as a concept and raised enough to develop the concept in to a website.

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

I worked for a brand licensing agency for 3 years but always knew I wanted my own business, I just didn’t know it would be online dating!

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

My dad was single for a few years when I was growing up (widowed). Years later a friend set up her single mum with a colleague’s dad. We talked about how this was so hard to do if you’re a bit younger or you don’t meet the right kind of people  – there was nothing like this online. Bringing matchmaking online makes it accessible to everyone, and not just people with single parents.

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

Some good (but risky) decisions have got datemy to where it is now, but the smartest is probably getting my intern, I realised just me running the show was counter productive. She’s great!

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Throwing money I didn’t have at something that didn’t get results.

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

100 % a jammy dodger. Sweet, approachable, and light hearted. Not forgetting full of love. Jammy dodgers have a little heart on them. And you can split them in half to share the love with someone.

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

POST - IT NOTES

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

We are going to be international with exciting product developments like restaurant vouchers and date treats.
