Talent Party is a data science driven recruitment marketplace that hosts over 10 million candidate profiles. The online tool helps companies rediscover how they find talent and enables them to take more control over the hiring process.

5-10 seconds: What's the business model?

A marketplace where employers search and identify passive candidates they'd like to hire, and agencies with relationships screen candidates and arrange interviews.

10-15 seconds: Who are your competitors? 

The great thing is, we don't actually have direct competitors. No other business out there is doing what we do. We are a digital disruptor for the entire industry - job boards, LinkedIn and agencies alike.

15-20 seconds: What's your USP?

Our approach to data science and the end-to-end platform gives us a unique positioning to be able to solve key recruitment problems. It also allows us to deal with gigantic pools of talent – for example, our site hosts over 10 million candidates in the UK and Australia alone!

20-25 seconds: How have you funded it so far?

We’ve gained funding from various investors and R&D grants. 

25-30 seconds: What were you doing before?

Before joining the world of entrepreneurship, I was a management consultant for over 15 years, transforming business productivity and problem solving with top-tier firms including Macquarie Group and PwC Consulting.

30-35 seconds: Where did the idea come from?

Our founder identified that technology would take a massive leap forward through the evolution of mobile, machine learning, data science, and cloud.  The recruitment industry was yet to evolve from an outdated business model.  It was time for a change, so, we brought together these two ideas to build Talent Party. 

35-40 seconds: What's the smartest thing you've done so far?

I would say that ensuring we hired the right staff has benefited us greatly. From the get-go, our focus was to hire really smart people, who are passionate about what we do. This in turn means they do a great job, helping us to drive the business forward.

40-45 seconds: What's the stupidest?

Unfortunately, launching a product which was too complex to use!

45-50 seconds: If your business was a biscuit, what would it be?

Tim Tam – it’s an Australian biscuit that is similar to a Penguin – they’re very famous and travel well! 

50-55 seconds: Which idea are you a bit jealous of?

I'm not prone to jealousy, however I am influenced by what others are doing. For example, it’s been fascinating to see how Uber has transformed the way people travel around cities. It’s a similar thing to what we’re doing with Talent Party in the recruitment industry.

55-60 seconds: Where are you going to be in 12 months' time?

With plans for growth, the next year is going to be really busy in terms of travelling around the world for various meetings. So, I imagine I will be on a plane, or maybe back home in Byron Bay!
