How do I register a company name even though I do not intend to start trading immediately?

I am currently in employment but would like to set up my own small design company - possibly not until later this year as my wife and I need to work through plans in terms of money in more detail.

I have spent a long time working on a name that fits what I am going to do, and cannot find anyone else with this name in the area of design / creative services. Is there a way that I can register this so that no one else can use this name to set up a design agency, even though I will not be trading? I don't want to start working up a website and stationary etc if someone else sets up a design agency with the same name in the meantime.

Finally, whilst I have searched to see if anyone else is using this name and cannot find anyone, can you tell me if there is a definitive way of fining this out? Is this something you're able to do? The name would be 'come with us.'

You can register your company as a Dormant company (non-trading) with companies house.

There are many services online where you can do this starting from around £16.

After registering a dormant company, you can then register your domains and social sites in advance, although a quick search shows that comewithus.com, comewithus.co.uk, comewithus.net and comewithus.org are taken.

P.S. best ways to search for availability are:

1. Google search
2. Domain name search
3. Social network search
4. Company search

Maybe opt for a new, similar name or work around the domains i.e. comewithusagency.com. Short is always sweet though!

Good luck!
