Finding outsourced manufacturers for a start up.

Hi all,

Quick question, am new to the forum here but have been checking back on smarta since my Business Studies teacher introduced me to it three or four years ago!

Anyway, I've been developing a plan for a new product range in my spare time at university, and was wondering whether anyone could give me any advice regarding finding outsourced manufacturers for metal/plastic forming.  I've got as far as CAD designs courtesy of a mech. eng. friend but was wondering what the most reliable way of finding manufacturers to discuss prototypes/ costings with was?

I was also wondering if anyone had any input as to what route I'd be best suited following with such limited resources.  I think I've come to the conclusion that having costings/ a possible prototype from a manufacturer would be the first logical step.  But after should I focus my energy on banks and trying to secure funding or would a sound business plan; marketing strategy; and a prototype be enough to go hunting for orders and using deposits etc to fund the initial run of products?

Any input would be greatly welcomed.
