Facilitator for a Focus Group

I'm looking to conduct a focus group for a Networking website for professionals. It will only be one session because I'm just trying to ascertain if there is a need for the services that I'm offering.

My question is if its worth hiring a professional facilitor or would I be better off asking someone I know to do it for me, bearing in mind that its only one session and that I'm just trying to ascertain if there is a need for the services?

If I was to hire a facilitator then what kind of cost will I be looking at for one 90 minute session consisting of 8 questions?

Networking sites are a crowded market, but that doesn't mean it can't succeed if you have deep enough pockets! It's all about getting a volume of users to attract people who attract more and more users. You don't need to hire anyone - just get a group of people you know together in a room, but try to make sure this people are your actual target market.

If it is only for a 90 minute session, I think you are better off asking a favor from someone you know, or from someone who might do it for free. Yes, some people might consider doing it for free, especially with vested interests. For example, if he can promote some products or services of his own to professionals for 15 minutes of that 90 minutes, or provide an extension for the promotions.

This should eliminate costs. If you can give a win win situation - it would be very productive.

I agree with the comments that it is now a very crowded market. Why not go to some of the many networking events such as The Business Growth Shows, BNI and others and ask the other attendees? That way you will get lots of market research. There is nothing to stop you using the speed networking sessions for this purpose and then being able to follow up.
