Call of the Wild

Call of the Wild was set up by three friends who wanted to run a business with its roots firmly planted in its local community. They set up an eco-friendly adventure training centre in a former mining area that was one of the most socially and economically deprived parts of Wales. They have since renewed a real sense of pride in the area by recruiting local staff and making it a tourist destination - so much so that when they won the Welsh Small Business of the Year Award, it was 'like the whole community celebrated'. They've saves a local pub, sponsor local sports teams and are intent on providing employment opportunity to local youngsters. They are also committed to teaching clients about the unique countryside and culture of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Staff explain Welsh heritage, myths, and customs with customers. Among other many environmentally-friendly measures, electricity is sourced from green energy sources, water is from a natural spring rather than mains, and all rubbish and food waste is recycled. They've stopped 3,320 plastic bottles from being used per year and have so far planted 2,000 trees at our centre to offset our carbon emissions.

  • Fantastic use of renewable energy sources
  • Bring work and pride to local community
  • Welsh Small Business of the Year 2008/2009, among other awards
  • Purchase as much as possible from local companies so that what customers spend stays in the area
One of the first companies in the region to achieve Green Dragon Level 2 Environmental Award
