So smart, it took Smarta a while to fully understand it, Carbon Retirement is no ordinary carbon offsetting scheme: instead of planting a couple of trees to offset the amount of carbon a company produces, Carbon Retirement's clients pay it to buy up Emissions Allowances equivalent to their own carbon emissions and take them out of, or 'retire' them, from the system. While carbon offsetting rarely negates the need to cut down on emissions in the first place, Carbon Retirement's approach is about as innovative as it gets, cutting down the amount of carbon industry across the EU is allowed to emit.
