Having read an article about the educational value of home
baking, Cake Kit Company founder James Middleton dropped out of
university to start his business, which supplies home baking kits
with a difference. Whereas supermarket-bought cake mixes come with
the cake mix and perhaps a butter icing mix if you're lucky, The
Cake Kit Company's kits come with everything you need: icing,
candles, even the right-sized tin to put it all in. To keep costs
down, Middleton's business has been incubated by his parents' party
supplies businesses - he's even built a bakery in a freight
container on their farm. With a rapidly-growing offering including
scented candles (shortbread, anyone?) and ready-made cupcakes with
personalised messages on top, it looks as though the Cake Kit
Company could be set to become a household name.
