Tribewanted

Back in 2006, the idea of creating an offline base for a social network was virtually unheard of. So when Ben Keen and his co-founder decided to create a social network where members could help make decisions about a real-life community developing on an island in Fiji, and even visit it themselves, the idea was revolutionary. Cue television and book deals following Keene and his tribe as they attempted to create an idyllic, sustainable community on an island while learning about the language and customs of the local tribe, from whom they had rented the island. It all went rather well: so well, in fact, that TribeWanted will be launching its next project later this year.

• New model will allow social network members to earn 'credits' through buying from partners, which can then be exchanged for 'tribe time' - ie. a holiday in Fiji
