SilenceBreakers
A green social enterprise, SilenceBreakers collects used
computers and reconditions them for media projects in disadvantaged
communities. Supported by a £2,500 UnLtd grant, Rotherham Council
and Lottery funding, SilenceBreakers' 'collect-rebuild-reuse'
activities not only reduce corporate waste but equip people with
the skills and tools needed to empower their lives through the web
and media. Its projects include an intergenerational programme
where school children help elderly people to use the internet on
SilenceBreakers equipment. Founder Jay Baker is a School for Social
Enterprises founder and says SilenceBreakers provides a 'voice for
the voiceless'.
