The Wine Pantry
Founder Julia Stafford and partner Dominique Hopgood use two
words to outline The Wine Pantry's USP: English. Wine. London's
first exclusively English wine shop opened in foodie haven Borough
Market in May, selling 1,200 bottles in its first month and taking
£45,000 in the 11-weeks up until the Smarta 100 deadline. The Wine
Pantry sees itself as a platform for the buoyant UK wine industry
(the number of bottles produced almost trebled in the last year) to
sell beyond the cellar door and describes its selection - 16 of
which can be tasted on the premises - as an 'exhibition of English
wine'. Wine fanatics with plenty to say, the founders have courted
plenty of press attention with pieces in Harpers, Time Out &
The FT to name but a few. The Wine Pantry also sells online, stocks
British food produce, and offers catering and tasting events.
- Strong USP: taking English wine to the masses
- Impressive launch sales and PR
- Multi-channel sales
