Tutor2U

Visited by 18.5 million teachers and students in the last year, Tutor2U offers professional teacher training courses, student revision workshops, e-learning materials and extensive support for GCSE and A Level courses. Operating a freemium model, founders Jim and Geoff Riley have built a huge, loyal and engaged customer base. Over 27,000 registered members receive daily email digests and exclusive blog content from a team of 50 teachers across the globe, while Tutor2U's Facebook page has more than 20,000 'Likes' with a similar number following on Twitter. The Rileys have kept overheads low, outsourcing wherever possible and employing only three people full-time, supported by a virtual network of contributors. The business has never borrowed and has always been profitable. It doubled turnover and profits in the last year and directs 5% of profits to local junior sport.

  • Unrivalled 'free' online support for teachers and students
  • Built a massive, engaged following
  • Low overheads, virtual structure
