Unknown Prints
Unknown Prints sells artwork generated by the people. Unlike
most art prints stores - where the art is stock images - the
website lets unknown artists submit what they think will sell. All
submissions are reviewed by founder Gavin Smith and, if accepted,
are printed on demand in limited edition fine art prints of 200
(maximum). The artists receive a royalty on the artwork sold - 40%
of the sale price of their work. The print-on-demand model is
important: many shops only have stock sizes and only one paper
type. Unknown Prints prints on various media types - matt paper,
gloss and canvas - and can produce an optional border so that the
image can be trimmed if necessary. The website launched earlier
this year and, despite a few teething pains, now hosts hundreds of
original pieces.
- Makes art affordable for the masses
- A platform for ordinary people to showcase great pictures
